Usually when Daryl Pierce is being paid for his time and attention he is an Audio Recordist, Editor or Producer. These are three separate jobs that are often rolled into one and called Audio Engineer. In this interview, we talk about audio production in music, games and TV. We also talk about his software of choice, Reaper, and of course cover his favourite Saskatoon restaurants.

Heavy Metal Remix?

This will make more sense after listening to the above interview – but here’s the sweet auto-tune song Daryl whipped up with my voice. I’ll be going on tour in the spring.

Guest Bio

It should be easy to describe work. Departments (fire, police, sanitation) and companies (prominent buildings in the neighbourhood) help create recognizable, almost self-explanatory titles. If you’ve ever been asked by a friend or loved one “what exactly do you do?” then this bio will look somewhat familiar.

Usually when Daryl Pierce is being paid for his time and attention he is an Audio Recordist, Editor or Producer. These are three separate jobs that are often rolled into one and called Audio Engineer. In this capacity Daryl has worked on numerous Music recordings. None of them will be recognizable to all readers but some may be familiar. He has a complete list in the Portfolio section on his website.

While working on the successful Saskatchewan made claymation television show Wapos Bay Daryl developed an interest in Post-Production audio. This is a catch-all term for the work being done on pretty much any audio intended for broadcast. He worked for nearly half a year as an editor on a CBC radio show called Vinyl Tap with Randy Bachman. He has worked on feature films, documentaries, cartoons…and most recently a mobile game. The latest twist has made Daryl into an Educator. He teaches an extremely practical overview of the vast world that is Post-Production audio at RAIS (Recording Academy In Saskatoon).

Usually when Daryl Pierce is being paid considerably less money for his time he is a Musician and Singer/Songwriter. He has released 3 albums of his own making. These are extremely good and should be given at least one complete listen. Daryl is an Upright and Electric Bassist with a number of bands and enjoys co-writing music of any kind. As a Keyboard Programmer for electronic music Daryl arranges for various musicians and performing groups.

Daryl Pierce spends much of his remaining time experimenting, blogging and writing code relating to Audio Production and Psychoacoustics. He has a particularly keen interest in Digital Audio Workstations, Ambisonics, Ambiophonics and pretty much anything to do with an ever more persuasive reproduction of a sonic experience.
